What is your favorite flavor of Gatorade? We all have a favorite color…personally, mine is red.
It’s one of the most popular drinks in America, and we have seen some of our favorite athletes drink Gatorade. Even though it’s trendy is Gatorade good for recovery? Everyone is looking for an edge after an intense workout. We want to bounce back quickly and help our bodies recover. Gatorade is marketed to be the ultimate recovery drink. While there are many benefits to Gatorade, moderation is needed.
What Gatorade Does for Your Body
While exercising your body will be using a lot of stored energy resources (carbohydrates), and most likely you’ll be sweating.
While these are all good things to help you achieve your fitness goals; it’s your responsibility to compensate for the lost nutrients by drinking plenty of fluids.
It’s very beneficial to use a combination of water and Gatorade to rehydrate and help your body stabilize.
The most helpful nutrients you’ll get from Gatorade is sugar and electrolytes.
Sugar will help replenish any lost carbohydrates, and it will stabilize your blood sugars.
Electrolytes will help with your ionic balance. Without proper balance, you can have trouble with stability, nerves, and brain functionality.
These are all things water can’t accomplish on its own; showing us why it can be helpful to use a combination of water and Gatorade.
The Bad Side of Gatorade
I’m not necessarily saying Gatorade itself is terrible but that we use improperly.
The problem with Gatorade is people’s overreliance on the drink when they don’t need it.
If you have exercised for longer than 60 minutes…congratulations you’ve earned a Gatorade! When working out this long, your body will need the benefits that it provides.
When you exercise less than 60 minutes, it’s best to stick with water. You probably worked up a sweat, but your body won’t need the extra sugar and electrolytes.
All the extra sugar from Gatorade will counterbalance all the benefits of your workout.
Yes, Gatorade does have less sugar than soda, but it can still be unhealthy.
Gatorade isn’t designed to be a leisure drink but something to help your body recover and function properly.
It’s an incredible sports drink! They taste delicious and the nutrients it gives your body are beneficial.
Like anything else; there is such a thing as too much of a good thing! People’s overreliance on Gatorade when they don’t need it is a severe problem.
It can be detrimental to your workout plan and diet if misused.
